Water Softener Test Kit Results Guide
What this kit checks
A softener check is a tale of two taps: the softened supply and the hard drinking tap. Test both. Each measure has its own detailed guide:
- Hardness — should read near zero after the softener
- Sodium chloride — rises as the softener works
Reading your strip
Dip one strip in softened water and one at your unsoftened drinking tap, wait 30 seconds each and compare against the colour chart.
What to do next
- Softened water still reading hard? Check the salt level and regeneration settings, then re-test after the next cycle.
- The hard drinking tap should stay hard — if it reads soft, the plumbing may not be split the way you think.
- Softened water carries extra sodium, which is why keeping one unsoftened tap for drinking and cooking is standard advice.
