Water Softener Test Kit Results Guide

What this kit checks

A softener check is a tale of two taps: the softened supply and the hard drinking tap. Test both. Each measure has its own detailed guide:

Reading your strip

Dip one strip in softened water and one at your unsoftened drinking tap, wait 30 seconds each and compare against the colour chart.

What to do next

  • Softened water still reading hard? Check the salt level and regeneration settings, then re-test after the next cycle.
  • The hard drinking tap should stay hard — if it reads soft, the plumbing may not be split the way you think.
  • Softened water carries extra sodium, which is why keeping one unsoftened tap for drinking and cooking is standard advice.
